As a zero-waste flower studio, we thrive on collaborating with brands who trust our commitment to design and sustainability. When Volvo approached us to create a floral installation and coordinate waste management for their midsummer event, we were thrilled to bring our expertise to the table.

We began by crafting our design concept: a wild, natural flower garden that would immerse Volvo’s vehicles in the essence of nature. Every element of our design was created with purpose, and to bring it to life, we assembled a talented team of creatives and sourced the best blooms from local gardens and local farmers. Our aim was not only to celebrate nature’s intrinsic beauty but also to craft an experience that would leave a lasting impression on all who encountered it.

To ensure sustainability at every step of the design, we focused on using reusable materials. We stayed true to our zero-waste ethos by avoiding traditional single-use plastics as much as possible. Instead, we used vessels and materials from our studio: pieces that have already been used for previous events and will continue to serve us in the future.

For us, the joy not only comes through beautiful design but also through thoughtful processes. It’s about every event being guided by responsible design principles and a zero-waste approach. We understand that during large events like this (imagine these photos times ten!), it can be tempting to let waste pile up as energy runs low. With that in mind, we took extra care in our planning stages to ensure that everything was accounted for. We set ourselves up so that each item could be intentionally repurposed, reused, or recycled, and that the flowers would find loving new homes.

At the end of the event, there were thousands of flowers and greenery stems to account for. Using our experience and expertise, we were ready to make the most of all of them. Our team came together with care and intention to mindfully deconstruct each design element, save the materials and mechanics, and organize each stem for their new designated destinations.

Redesigned to carry on the joy:

Our team took special care to save all of the gently used blooms that still looked beautiful and had a lot of life in them. These blooms were then bundled into bouquets for the local women’s shelter to find joy in.

Reused by local artists:

The beauty of flowers can keep on giving, from one design to the next. We partnered with a variety of local artists who collected our used blooms for their projects. From natural dying, to hammered florals, to illustrations, these flowers became integral pieces of new designs.

Composted thoughfully:

We gathered all flowers and greenery that were at the end of their vase life and delivered them to composting sites. By composting flowers and greenery, we help to create organic topsoil and mulch from which new things will grow.

We are so honoured to be trusted to tell stories through flowers. Thank you to Volvo and each person who played a role in this one.
